How does the Mariners Extended Residency program work?

Occasionally a client completes our Residential Program but is not ready to pursue independent living because of physical or mental challenges.  MER offers these men substance abuse counseling as well as vocational and educational guidance in a safe, structured environment, provided that the following conditions are met:

    • the individual's problems must not interfere with his ability to function self-sufficiently at the Inn; that is, he must demonstrate the ability to participate in therapeutic community living.
    • there must be some source of income available to cover the cost of room and board (such as Social Security benefits).
    • residents must abide by the rules of the MER program, establish their own goals and objectives with the staff and continue to make progress toward independent living.

MER clients can also receive family therapy and psychological services upon request.
