| ALCOHOL & HIGHWAY SAFETY EDUCATION
PROGRAM
A man or woman of any age who has been convicted of operating
a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and mandated by the court to receive
alcohol-related education can now attend required courses at a respected
non-profit treatment center in downtown Detroit, near the Masonic Temple.
All courses are held at Mariners Inn, 445 Ledyard Street at Cass Avenue,
Detroit. All course costs must be prepaid, either by cash or money
order. In order to receive credit for the course, an individual must
arrive on time and participate for the entire time scheduled. Mariners
Inn offers three state-certified courses in Alcohol and Highway Safety
Education:
Level 1 (for first-time offenders)
What: Four hours of group education in basic awareness
of the consequences of DWI - legal, personal, physical, societal
WHEN: Alternate Saturdays from 8 a.m. to Noon, or every
Wednesday from 5 to 9 p.m.
COST: $50.00
Level 2 (for second-time offenders)
What: Six hours of in-depth group education about alcoholism
and highway safety with additional opportunities to explore individual
drinking behaviors and patterns
WHEN: Alternate Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
COST: $95.00
Intensive Outpatient (for those whose DWI histories
indicate a serious drinking problem)
What: A one-hour individual assessment, scheduled separately
before the week of the course; 12 hours of small group education and guidance
(four consecutive 3-hour sessions in one week)
WHEN: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday, from
4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
COST: $650.00 (including assessment)
The State of Michigan licenses Mariners Inn as a provider
